Can anyone tell me how many characters can I have (including space) for title and description? I heard different search engines support different length?

If google supports 50 for title while aol supports 70, and I have 60 characters for title, will my title being cut off by google or my site won't be showing up in Google search engine at all since the title exceeded its max # of char?

Thanks

in google, when you exceed the available # of spaces, it simply inserts ... and doesn't show the rest of the title. So far as I can tell, pages which exceed recommended length are not downgraded.

Have heard from 2 sources that google accepts 100 & 120 max - so pick your number, they are both big figures. Searchers will only be able to see 70 characters however, so the remainder will be used by google, not users.

Thx POR - really useful to re-affirm and focus. Have read the 1st page and will continue soon.

Have a question that may be better placed as a thread to your 'thesis'. It's on content. Do you have a preference for shallow or deep content? Many of my top ranking competitors have deep pages.

Thx

No preference really. Its all relative to the structure of the site. I normally keep most content at one to two levels below the root.

Google indexes the first 10 words of the title - at least when I checked a while back. Didn't try the max number of characters.
