Keyword quirks

I have a site about "home widgets". That is the keyword i'm trying to get ranks from.

However, i have a sub-page called "home widget images" and whenever i search for "home widget images" i get #1 position for the root page (home) / which doesn't even contain the word "images" and a tabbed entry for the page that does. (/images)

Is there something that is linking my home page to the other keyphrase rather then the basic keyphrase?

Just trying to find out why i'm ranked high on the sub phrase and not at all for the main and and i'm wondering if some linking or something has caused this.
