How can you call developing of new technology?

I know what they do, but I can't tell you how it's called.

My friend's firm offers an interesting and even unique service. I know what they do but I can't find the proper keywords, which can be actually used by their prospects. Could you help me to solve this problem?

This firm reproduces (reconstructs) technology of some ceramic object using a sample of material. They can reproduce any kind of ceramics and refratories (films, coatings, catalysts, products by complicated configuration, etc.) It might be important: they don't steal technology, they develop their own one. Finally customer gets technology protected by patents.

Is "technology reproducing" the right keyword? How would you search for such services if you need it?

Welcome on board [webmasterworld.com]. Did you try WordTracker? Don't rely on their numbers, but it's ideal for generating ideas if you start out with the keywords you already mentioned. The free trial version is good enough for this pupose.

Following on from Martinibuster's suggestion, perhaps have a look at the logs of their current website. What keywords are people currently using to get to their site? Also, if you can, perhaps ask their customers what keywords they would search on.

It looks like reverse-engineering, but it isn't. To create a new technology they can't merely drill down a sample to discover its chemical structure. They must make a lot of experiments to determine what technological conditions can lead to such structure and such properties of a sample.

If I knew them It would be much easier to find the answer. I tried to find competitors, but I didn't succeed.

Yes, I've tried it. It didn't help because this field is quite narrow and WordTracker doesn't have enough statistical information to make significant suggestions.

Good idea, thank you. But now it can't be helpful enough, because there is only Russian version of a site. English version of site is about to start, and my friend wanted to optimize it before his site will be launched.

I am reading ahead for my next MBA course, which happens to be on innovation. If I recall correctly, the authors define the term "innovation" as to make something useful from existing technology. "Discovery" also has a similar meaning, whereas "invention" means it never before existed.
