Location of keywords in title tag

Anyone have experience with different location placements of keywords in Title Tag? Is there any evidence as to which works better in Google, or does it matter? (ex. "word word word keyword keyword" or "keyword keyword word word word")

From my experience it does matter, but I believe that how much it matter varies with the competitiveness of the keyword(s) you are targeting.

If you have a low level target keyword, and your site and page are well optimized for that keyword, then the placement of the keyword within the title will not make a huge difference.

If you have a high level target keyword, then chances are most of your competitors will have a well optimized site and page too, and the keywords within your title will probably play more of a role.

The thing that most matters is that you have those keywords contained within inbound links to your site.
