Currently I have a dynamic site that does pretty well with google but is next to nonexistant on other engines. I am thinking about using iisrewrite to change all the dynamic links to look like static pages. Would there be any significant difference if I were to name the pages with keywords instead of just index.htm? Like instead of this:
products/productname/index.htm
use this:
products/productname.htm?
or maybe:
products/productname/somepopularkeyword.htm

It certainly won't hurt. Keywords in directory/file names do contribute somewhat to ranking, but you probably won't see any dramatic change in rankings.

Out of the two, try a combination, so insted of
products/productname.htm
or
products/productname/somepopularkeyword.htm

try something like:
products/productname_somepopularkeyword.htm

This way you don't add another sub-directory to the algo and you have the text inside the HREF tag from inbound links.

Keywords anywhere in the path do help.

Found a page in search where the term was nowhere on the page and was not in links pointing to the page - but in the filename.

I've found it to help a lot.
