spellweb accuracy

i have been relying on spellweb.com to determine the frequency of keyword misspellings. this month, however, i rechecked some words/results that i got just last month. the discrepancy is huge. for ex: one sp keyword showed >6 million last month and just over 100k now. commonly, results were at 6 to 10x variance. anyone know why this happens and how to get reliable data on misspellings?

It could have something to do with Fast launching a new version of its database.

As far as reliable misspelling data goes, I think it depends on what kind of data you are looking for. Spellweb only looks at the most common published misspellings. Quite often, that doesn't help much when trying to determine the most commonly searched mispellings.

For that type of info, a tool like wordtracker would be much better.

glad you pointed out the publication vs search thing; i had assumed incorrectly.

but the results from spellweb's either lycos or fast are almost always very close. as for wordtracker, talk about quirky! i can never understand, for example, why it does stuff like put the same word/phrase in a list of results with enormously differing tallies. oh, well. and thanks.
