Why should I do a keyword research?

I have a question. I get confused when people say that you should do keyword research before you write your content for SEO.

My question is why is it important?

The reason I am asking this is that recent algorithm update of Google has put heavy penalty on keyword stuffing. So finding a keyword with high traffic and then stuffing your website with that keyword is not an option now.

Moreover if you are an expert on a niche or know well about it. You will not have any problem in writing a good content on your niche and the content will naturally contain the keywords which is required to rank for that niche.

So is it still important to do keyword research before content? If yes then why and how to use that keyword research in your content so that your content does not sound fabricated?

Not Only You, Everyone should do Keyword research before starting a new blog/website even before publishing a new post on your blog, you must do some keyword research.
