For the searches that are performed using the address bars in IE and Netscape, keywords
are being sold for:

1 word -> $4000
2 words -> $1500
3 words -> $350

Users must upgrade there browsers in order to be sent to the owner of the keyword
they typed in? Does anyone know of how many people are searching for sites using
the address bar? Also, how many people have the upgrade? Is it worth it?

I would say no, it isn't worth it. I doubt it would generate enough traffic to justify the cost.

I have been contacted by phone twice by telemarketers trying to sell me my keywords for

one word phrase $5000
two word phrase $1850
Three word phrase $350

It works by a download and they told me that 50-100 million will download the plug-in to make it work by years end.
One girl told me that people will stop using search engines because of this "new technology"
I was told that 40% of searches are done from the address bar.(is this true?)

I was already laughing and about to hang up when it occured to me that if they are using some download to make it work that searches must go through their database to remain current. It would seem that they could provide me with some search frequencies for my terms using their technology (they should for 5 grand!) All I could get from them were overture counts.

To both callers I stated that I do not make buying decisions over the phone and requsted a PDF or some third party research on their penetration (like overture provides). I gave them my email and have not received anything yet.

I think it is bogus. If anyone out there is using this service and getting good results please let me know ASAP!

I've never heard of this, but I know the reverse is true - many people use the search box (accidentally) when typing in URLs. That's why you get hotmail and yahoo as popular search terms.
