Include keywords AND keyword phrases?

Can anyone clarify?

Can anyone clarify this for me?
I have a website that offers tours of Northern Thailand

- Do I need to have the plural form of 'tour' as well as the singular?
- Do I need to put 'North' and 'Northern' or do SEs distinguish between them?
- Should I list the individual keywords (ie: tour,North,Thailand) as well asthe keyword phrase made up of these individual key words (ie: Tours of North Thailand)

Just listing keywords in not going to help you much unfotunately. The main earch engines no longer recognise the KW Meta content. It's the on page text that you may have to change although Google knows that north and northern are talking about the same thing.

So in the content itself is it important to have a mix of both keywords and keyword phrases?

Right, the Meta Data is not as important, so I've heard, but some SE's may display the meta description....at their discretion of course.

As an SEO consultant I would have to suggest using phrases (never words) and also optimizing for every variation.

If this gets a bit cumbersome for 1 page you can always split them up on different pages. In the long run this will help you a LOT more since you will have very targeted pages with highly optimized terms.

The above comments are true with regards to meta keywords however the TITLE tag and to a much lesser degree META Description can still be important. Again another reason why its good to split the keywords out and optimize the PAGE content (or keyword density) for each phrase.
