Could find no up to date thread on this subject, but the last ones seemed to say that inserting keywords in comment tag (like <!--keywords--> ) would not be seen as spam by SEs. Is that still current?

From what I have seen comment tags don't hold much weight. If you do a search for "webbot BOT" or another common comment you can see how the search engine will rank them.
