Keyword density of other keywords

keyword density of main target phrases and of other text on the page

I hope someone can help. I have spent some time optimizing my landing pages and keyword density, but am completely unsure about the other phrases that appear on a page.

For example, my keyword landing page is being optimized for 'keyword' and the density is about 7%. Another phrase on the page is 'keyword2' and this appears 5%. Is that too much? What should it be very maximum, 1/2/3/4/5%?

Keyword density is not much of a factor these days as it has in the past. I have found that if you keep it UNDER double digits, you are going to be okay.

Personally, I rarely check my KWD, but when I do on my top ranking pages, it is usually in the 2-4% range.

Thanks for this. I find that unless my landing pages have a page rank of 3 or above the density makes a big difference. My competitors seem to work on 10% for 1 or 2 word key phrases, whereas I used to be in at 5% ish.

I never really got anywhere, but recently I upped them to 10% and worked ok! I struggle withn the supplementry phrases though, like I will get up for [manufacturer widgets] but not [discount manufacturer widgets]. What sort of density for these other phrases do you think?

As I said, there is no targeted percentage as on-page factors are not what they used to. You will always find exceptions to the "rules". Just concentrate on the "best practices" of SEO found here at Webmaster World and you will be in good shape.

I keep mine to around 6% however before I undertake to do this I do check other sites listed for the term and see how well they are optimised. For teh more awkward terms where KW density appears not to work I back link from other sites.
