Does anyone know of any keyword popularity resources other than Overture and Google's AdWords calculator? Basically, I'm trying to see if there's much point to a potential client having a website for his Detroit-based cleaning service...trying to see how many searches "cleaning service" has in a given time frame. I think those two are going to be your best bet. In general, if the keywords aren't showing up there, they probably are not being used. The only sure way to tell is by examining site log files of his existing site.

Thanks for the response. Actually, he doesn't have a site. I suspect that a site won't do much to drive his particular business. I am just interested in seeing if anyone searches on "cleaning service" at all. As a developer, I always think people could use a web site. But realistically, I just don't know Detroit is ready to start shopping for cleaning services on the web.

That has been the case with some of our clients also - regional small businesses that may or may not justify investing in a Web site. Here's what my thought is: the Web is kind of the yellow pages of the future. If they pass now, that's fine, but they better budget for it in the future.
One thing that has worked very well for small businesses is to have a downloadable/printable coupon on the site that is mentioned in radio/print/etc advertising.
