For a site that sells several thousand products, we are working on rewriting and improving the text content. As part of this project, we were going to populate keywords for each product. We are aiming to improve natural search, not to use keywords in adwords, etc. I was recently advised NOT to do this, since Google and others don't even LOOK at keyword tags anymore.
Is this true? Is it still important to have a list of keywords per product? If so, how many?
Thank you for your input:)

If you are talking about meta tags, youare right that the keywords tag counts for little with most SEs at this time.

However, there is aview that it can be ueful for mis-spelled words and alternate spellings for some SEs.

If you do choose to use them, do follow the correct usage, as misue can most certainly count against you. for this reason, many prefer to not use them to avoid the risk.

on the other hand, if you hae them there, correctly set up, you'll be ready if the rules change in the future!
