Keyword Density

Where're the facts guys?

I've heard a great deal about keyword density, and I know it's a hotly debated topic. There's a rough general consensus about good keyword density on a page (I believe it's somewhere around 6-8%?) - but where do these figures come from? Has anyone done any testing on this? Does anyone have any documentation?

I don't think it's a hotly debated topic anymore. In the current Google only environment, keyword density has very little to do with ranking.

I haven't even opened any of my densitiy analyzer programs in well over a year.
