Maximum number of keywords on a web page

Is there a cap on the number of times a keyword can be used on a page without appearing over-optimized / losing page relevancy?

500 - 800 words with a density of around 5-8% should be ok

Thank you......I suppose the percentage keyword density mentioned by you relates to a page/site with content.

Q: What if the page / site contains only link text?....

Another thing to consider:

5 to 8% is fine if the keyword if one word...like "widgets"

But if the keyword is "large blue widgets" or "large blue widgets in omaha", 5 to 8% is too much. It just isn't natural to have longer keyword phrases repeated too often.

I have had great success in Google with longer keywords only having a 2% density.
