root of keyword

OPD, DH and others have changed over 1999. My #1 keyword:
tenting now brings up exclusively info on tent, tents,
tent sales, tenting equipment and 0 info on the activity
of tenting. Tried tent camping, still all only tent info.
Wrote to OPD and was told that they now use only the
root of each keyword and saw what it did here, since tent,
the root, is a noun, and tenting is a verb, an activity.
They said they would look into it, but nothing has
changed over the last 6 months. Do I have to purchase a
new domain, since my domain starts with tenting and the
title of my main page- shucks- was working fine in 98.
Insight is appreciated, since I need to attract
surfers who want to go tenting or tent camping, thanks.

Interesting topic. Myself, I've never worried about keywords in relation to the ODP since a huge percentage of hits comes from directory surfing and not keyword searching via the ODP itself. I've heard the figure is around 85% of the traffic on Dmoz is category searches.

Sites where people do keyword searching on the ODP database (like Lycos/hotbot/altavista) all employ their own algos that differ dramatically from the system used at the main Dmoz site.
I'd leave everything alone and promote, promote, promote.
