Naming Page Graphics with Keywords

Is there any point ?

I've got 10 navigation graphics along the top of each page of a site, set up as roll-overs. I name them 1, 1on, 2, 2on etc for simplicity, but wondered if it was worth naming them with keywords. Is any weight given to this? TIA.

If you referring to the ALT tag, for accessibility sake and in the event the graphic doesn't download, you should name the graphic what it is: Home, About Us, Site Map, etc. I cannot attest to how SE's would consider the ALT if it's a keyword, but this is one instance where you should think of the visitor's needs. Just my opinion :)

I don't think any weight will be given - from tests on Google and Fast they don't appear to notice the name attribute at all.

Try this search at google [google.com] .

And then view the source of the page. I think that it shows that the normal google search does not use the name of the graphic, but it does count alt text.

However the Google image search [images.google.com] does use the graphic name.

Not sure about the other engines. I can't see it doing you any harm though.

Thanks all. I've used Alt tags for a description (including keywords) of each navigation graphic and it makes sense that SE's shouldn't go as far as page graphic filenames but in optimization, anything seems possible. I'm building a new site and its difficult by naming the many graphics with keywords so I thought is this really worth it? Maybe I'll turn to 'Search and Replace' at the end. Thanks again.
