I've seen it used by some sites and am doing my own investigations into the subject, it certainly has the potential to offer granularity. Will it be picked up by the various spiders though....

Presently, no important search engine uses the DC.
The only tags the pay attention to are the description and keywords. I doubt that you'll see any SE change in the near future. Expanding the use of meta tags means that they become more reliant on the site owner to determine relevancy. That doesn't usually result in better quality results... :)
