Does the keywords meta tag content tell the search engines what words you want to show up for or does it tell them what words in your pages are defined as keywords?
Side note: is it true that current google algorythms ignore the keywords meta tag?

Thanks to all for your help

yes friend, the meta tag keyword is ignored by most major search engines except inktomi the yahoo search engine. It uses these meta tag keywords not for the rank that much but for including your website in a subset of results.

Meta tags are some what a way of the past it might not help you get ranked but it can be good in situations of less competitive keywords.

Hope it helps :)

They were designed to indicate what topics a page was about.

Google doesn't look at keyword meta tags.

Do a search - both on the web and in WebmasterWorld and there are some excellent threads and articles that will give you extensive information on the meta keyword tag.
