I operate a local community website (Anytown, USA). I recently ran an analyzer against my site and was told that multiple keywords in my meta tags could be considered spam.
My meta tags are things like: Anytown Events, Anytown calendar, Anytown classified, Anytown parks, etc.
Right now, my site ranks decently with those tags, and if you type "Anytown Events" in many search engines, you get my site; however, when you type "Anytown", I am the 75th (or so) spot. I recently scored a web link on the no. 2 website for "Anytown" on many search engines, which should help me in my placement, I would think.
Should I nix the additional keywords and just have Anytown, USA, parks, events, calendar, links, etc?
Thanks!

Anytown Restaurants
Anytown Hotels
Anytown Charities
Anytown Furniture
and maybe 5 other links like that. These are probably counted as keywords. Is it better to to just list it as:
Anytown Links
-----------------
Restaurants
Hotels
Charities
Furniture, etc.
