Which is better?
Example A:
Main page title: Articles about Widgets, Gizmos, Dohickeys, Doodads, and Thigamajigs
And then link all of the different keyword articles from this main page?
or
Example B:
Main page title: Articles about Widgets, Gizmos, Dohickeys, Doodads, and Thigamajigs
And then create subcategories for each keyword such as
Articles about Widgets
Articles about Gizmos
Articles about Dohickeys
Articles about Doodads
Articles about Thigamajigs
and then grouping the articles under their respective keyword.
Example A would seem the most logical to the reader, while example B may be more inline with the themes concept, but also may confuse the reader as to why the articles are subdivided into several groups especially when they are talking about the same item.
Any help is appreciated.
If I understand correctly, I'd be inclined to go with something closer to "A".
Main page title: Articles about Widgets, Gizmos, Dohickeys, Doodads, and Thigamajigs
Perhaps something like ...
Main page title: Articles about Widgets, also know as Gizmos, Dohickeys, Doodads, and Thigamajigs
Or maybe make the "also known as" part a subtitle.
I'm not sure I'd link to all twenty articles from the main page. For one thing, if you continue to add new content you might end up with too many links on the main page to be really user friendly.
Instead maybe divide the articles into a few general categories and link to the category sub-index page and from there to the specific articles.
I like your suggestions and did not consider the title you recommended which is a great idea. The main page is more of an introductory page which categorizes the articles under 4 separate headings.
Would creating sub-indexed categories and linking to them dilute the effectiveness of having the pages rank well?

That makes doing the sub-indexes even easier since you've already choosen categories.

I suppose it's possible, but I doubt any dilution would be significant enough to worry about.
I use this method on a site with 1,500 pages divided into 3 main categories and haven't noticed any negative results. As the site has grown I further subdivided those categories into sub categories with no problem as far as ranking goes.
