Better without META description tag, can you belive it?

Get rid of Meta keyword and description tag and get better results

I can't belive it myself but in my area competitors rank better without keywords meta tag. #1 directly doesn't have it so SE pick body text where they have good keyword density and description in SE result picks "key 1 bla, key 2bla"
Others doing same rank better than my well organized and descriptive meta tag keyword and description.

It's possible to rank well on one search engine for terms found only in the keyword meta tag. Think mis-speelings.

I find keeping the description short makes it all look tidier, say, under 10 words. Any more and some of the more notable SEs cut the description halfway through and pick up some body text at random.

We have got the same findings as silverbytes, but only for the keyword meta. Description is fine and utile, as long as it is different for every page, and what's even more important, SE tend to use the Description as snipped. Great place to put useful copy.

Have you experimeted with copy paste bodie's copy in description?

Could be cloaking.

The description on the page you see listed in google could be the same as the page you are delivered. The page that you are delivered, however, has no <keyword> tag. No need!

It's all possible. I have seen a lot of sites at the number 1 position that are seriously cloaked.

A well crafted meta description gives you 100% control as to what text appears as the snippet for each and every page of the site.

Forget the ranking ability of the meta description. Think about what information you want to convey to the person looking at your entry in the SERPs.
