which to optimize for?

hi,
i am developing a site on blue widgets. i am confused if to optimize the site for "blue widget" or "blue widgets" . i want to get exact stats on how many people search for "blue widget" and how many for "blue widgets" , if i try overture keyword suggestion it returns the same result (only the singular version) for both blue widget and blue widgets even if i put each within quotes. google displays an entirely diffrent set of results for blue widget and for blue widgets. Sites in blue widgets are not in blue widget and vice versa

Now how do i go about this? is there any other tool or way for me to find out which keyword is more sought after?

Yes, Overture uses "stemming", which lumps the singular and plural versions together. One service that doesn't do this is WordTracker; there are probably others.

Keep in mind, though, that the term with the highest "popularity" may not always be the one to go after: people searching for "blue widgets" may well be looking primarily for information, whereas people searching for "blue widget" may want to buy one..!

I am currently also optimizing my pages for "blue Widget" and "blue widget", in advertising experince on google both widget and widgets lead to sales. My question is when adding the keywords to your site is widget and widgets seen as the same keyword by the search engines. I want to add my density to the right level but if they are seperate keywords I can add more density to each one rather than density of the two combined.
