I chose a subject I would be interested in creating a website on and went did some research in #*$!. However, several of the KEI results were very low. Should I therefore go for related keywords with zero competition sites, even though the 'count' comes out at only around 11, 15, 9 and the results for 24 hrs as being 5,3,4 and that sort of thing?
Is that how you eventually get to compete for the most competitive keywords?
Can anyone offer some advice? I always seem to be getting stuck on the keyword research stage, despite having read information on conducting searches.
Thanks

In my opinion it all comes down to ROI.
If the time spent on optimizing pages for low volume terms can generate enough traffic to make that time spent profitable then there is your answer.
Same applies for the terms with low KEI, but with high search volumes... if that term is relevant then you should spend as much time on achiving a top ranking as you can.
The tricky part is knowing how much time and effort to spend per search term in relation to potential results.
This is where knowing your current conversions ratios can assist with your calculations.

I have software aswell that displays kei.
Basicly what i do is find the highest kei and then conduct further research by looking at websites that rank high and see what kws they are useing. Then go back into the software and find related search terms that are even better than the competition. You'll need to be creative in thinking up kws phrases that consumers might use to find what you are selling.
Hope this helps:)
Good luck!
