<blockquote>
You and many other members of the Opera community recently brought to our attention Opera's "spoofing" mode under which it masquerades as IE or Netscape. Because of this, SuperStats was incorrectly identifying many Opera browsers as the spoofed version of IE or Netscape. Thanks to the information you provided we will be able to make the appropriate modifications to SuperStats to appropriately detect Opera in the future. We expect these changes will be in effect no later than the end of the month. Please pass this message, and my thanks, on to the rest of the community.

So what is the magic in the agent string that differentiates Opera spoofing IE from IE? If you don't want to say outloud, sticky me.

Isnt it just e.g Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT 4.0) Opera 5.02 [en]

i.e the MSIE 5.0 fools sites that you want to believe you are using IE but the Opera bit makes it clear what you are actually using.

Yep, if it says Opera, it is Opera.

Opera Agent Strings:

Spoof Mode : Agent
---------------------
Opera : Opera/5.12 (Windows 98; U) [en]
Mozilla 5 : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows 98; U) Opera 5.12 [en]
Mozilla/4.76: Mozilla/4.76 (Windows 98; U) Opera 5.12 [en]
Mozilla/3 : Mozilla/3.0 (Windows 98; U) Opera 5.12 [en]
IE5 : Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98) Opera 5.12 [en]

Additionally, when in IE mode, it executes the IE portion of javascript and executes the Netscape on all other settings except Opera where it executes the Opera code if present or the Netscape code if not.
