Hello,

I'm facing an issue with integrating an AdMaven meta tag used to verify my sites for ads. Despite adding the meta tag to the header, it doesn't seem to be working as expected:

<meta name="admaven-placement" content="BrHg7?>

I've verified that the meta tag appears in the source code of my sites but I’m still unable to verify my sites. The verification keeps failing. One site is Wordpress and the other site is a web forum like this one. I’ve tried everything and my host said it’s not the servers. It used to work now whenever I put codes in the header it doesn’t work. I’ve tried other codes too. The old codes work I believe. I think it’s just the new codes. I have to verify my sites for other ad networks etc. I would like be able to do it, What could have happened to make it stop working? What can be done?

Hi MsSunny and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

I'm not familiar with the AdMaven tag itself, but generally an open "quote" in a tag requires a closer, as in
<meta name="admaven-placement" content="BrHg7?">
Have you tried that?

Yes it has a closer I took out some of the code at the end. The original code has closing quotes

Have you tried validating the page to see whether there are other issues prevening its rendering? The w3 Validator is free and gives you a full report: [validator.w3.org...]

Yes I tried the validator and there is issues but they are design related. What kind of errors should I look for?

Have you checked your logs to see what response is shown when they attempt to validate your meta code? That can tell you what to look for.

How do I check the logs?

You can download your logs via SFTP (and should) so you can see what is happening on your site. Who visits? What pages do they want? What scripts might not be working?

My host checked the server logs yesterday and didn’t see anything. Is there a way I can check?

If you cannot see the AdMaven request for the code, maybe they have not requested it yet?

This makes me uneasy. If your access logs are not available for you to download, change hosts.

Typically logs will be available on the site for a few days (mine used to have an option for up to 14 days), so you need to download them and store them locally.

There are logs there but I didn’t know how or where to go to see them.

By any chance do you use something like Cloudflare to prevent access? You should find out where they verify the code from so you would know if they are inadvertently blocked for verification efforts.

Yes I use Cloudfare. It’s included with my hosting plan. I don’t think I have an account though as it’s connected to my plan

I have bluehost and the only option I have is to disable it or enable it

It’s not cloudflare. My other site doesn’t have cloudflare and the codes don’t work on that site either

If your other site does not use Cloudflare you might find the AdMaven efforts on that site. There would be a record of their request, the time and date, the server response and the UA (UserAgent). If you do not see those requests on either site's logs, then they have not attempted to verify your code.

Ok where would I look? The site is a Xenforo forum

Typically, just like any site, it is hosted on an account. I have not used Xenforo so I cannot say, "look over here", only that if you use an FTP client to visit the domain, it might offer a folder where logs are stored, the same as on bluehost. IF Xenforo is hosted free on their server, then you may not have a user account to download logs. If you do have an account there, the information should be included for you with any of their documents that you have received, or on their site.
