Structured Data Syntax Image CSS Div Sprite

How do I use a sprited background image?

Can this be done? I'm putting structured data in the head as meta tags but use Div Class background sprites for all images. This is a product catalog.

Is there a way to indicate the xy background positions of a png in structured data?

if the structured data is in meta tags then you don't need sprites since the resource isn't requested to render the page.
the purpose is to provide an image resource that can be used as is.
you should instead refer to a discrete image for that product.
