Having a strange problem, when ever I type in a URL directly into the address bar it doesn't load the page. Instead it loads a result page from my chosen search provider.

At the base of the browser pane I see the status text waiting for www.example.com

after a few seconds it changes to
waiting for search.example.com/q=www.example.com

The results page loads, and if I click on the page I intended to go to it loads up fine. My first thought was a dns issue at my isp, but this problem is only present in ie8.

I went into settings to see if I had altered anything. I even reset defaults, but still no luck.

Any ideas.

Check "Search from the address bar" setting in internet option -> advanced

Thanks daveVk, I had a look in there and all looked to be ok.

The strange thing is the error now occurs randomly, so I don't think its a "hard set" option. I now think it has to be ISP related. Its strange that my other browsers aren't having this issue.

As a test, you could try switching off referrer data. Normally, referrer data is not sent (I think) when a request is made via the address bar so this would render all http requests identical.

For the record, my first thought was malware.

>> Mailware

The thought had crossed my mind, I made sure all my protection was up to date and ran a few scanns, nothing out of the ordinary.

It has been working fine today so far, no glitches. The only thing I have done that may be responsifly was flushing my dns
