Empty bullets in IE8

I have several web pages with unordered lists in the left column.Everything works fine in Firefox and previous versions of IE,but in IE8 I can see that the list includes some bullets with nothing next to them (in addition to the items of the list that show up fine).What might cause it?

IE8 is a bit more strict on parsing, so make sure your code fully validates.
