HTML emails and unwanted image attachments

Some webmail browsers are converting my image URLs into attachments

Hi there,

Following an old thread that came up in a google search ( [webmasterworld.com...] ) I'm experiencing this same problem with Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and a couple of smaller webmail clients.

Here's what happens: All the image links in the HTML are full URL paths to images hosted on our server, yet when I view the email in Hotmail or Yahoo mail the images also appear as a long list of attachments. How can I stop this from happening?

Thanks!

Hello figgy, and welcome to the forums.

I don't think there's anything you can do to change this. Those webmail services run a security check on the image and then attach the version that they've verified. That protects their users from a later switch to something malicious by the sender.

You're still doing right by not attaching the images yourself - that will help get your emails delivered on many business email servers.

Its something the recipient controls. With Hotmail I think that they need to explicitly white list your email address. Not sure about the others.

Thank you for the replies! I'm glad to know that it's not my code.
