Upload Problem

Hi.

I'm a web administrator working on a site that was mostly set up by previous admins (some of it is antique). I've been asked to work on a section controlled by a dwt file. This is fine until I try uploading from dreamweaver in the usual fashion - the upload works but no updated site. Could someone help me with this?

Also, why would anyone use this sort of system instead of CSS (seems far cleaner to me)?

Personally, I don't use DW, so I cannot answer the upload question. However, as for the dwt, they are good for changing shared content site-wide when you do not use an include.

If the upload "works," but your site is not updated, then you're not uploading the files to where you think you are. Check the site's remote server settings (ftp info) in Dreamweaver: Sites->Manage Sites and make sure you have the server, user, pass and root directory set correctly.

You can also upload the files using any old ftp program. Good for diagnostics to check your ftp settings, and generally better than DW's built-in ftp regardless.

Also, you can use CSS with DW templates just fine. It's not an "either/or" choice.

I've checked my ftp settings and logged onto the site using fireftp. I had no problem with either. This is frustrating!

Fixed it by clearing my private data. The joys of web administration.
