Recommend mailclients to send newsletter from

This week I tried to send a newsletter from my Outlook but it inserts a lot of code and the newsletter does not look good in Gmail or Hotmail in FF and IE7. It only looks good in Outlook.

The solution was to send through Dreammail which the firm who developed the newsletter has installed.

But this is not a solution which we can use in future and therefore I am looking for a open source mailclient which I can use to send the newsletter from.

Can you recommend a mail client which does not ruin the HTML - what about Thunderbird - does anyone have expereince with that?

It's not just the app that sends the email that you need to wrestle with - some clients, especially web-based email clients - will seriously alter some HTML and CSS.
