Why does google chrome require SP2 for XP when all other browsers don't need it?

I can only guess - it might have something to do with Gears, or the integration with the OS that some of the special features provide, like the Crash Control Task Manager.

I've read reports that it works on some OS that are not officially supported - such as Win2K with SP4

If Google puts in a bid for MS or starts its own OS we can look forward to a future 1984

Would Google want an OS? I'm not convinced in that regard...an OS is a lot of work! Riding on any OS is less work. I don't think Google wants MS dead, just not in the search/advertising business!
