I'm not a regular Hotmail user so I don't know if this is the norm or not...

I'm currently coding some HTML emails for a campaign and when sending to a test Hotmail address, all images that have been linked remotely using absolute URLs appear as attachments within Hotmail.

The message is still displayed correctly, but the list of images makes it look slightly unorthodox.

Can anyone confirm if this is typical Hotmail behaviour or if it's down to how I'm coding it?

Yes it is typical Hotmail behavior.

No idea how to fix it, I had always assumed that it was down to the way the recipient had configured their Hotmail account.

I always thought Hotmail did this because, once they've checked the image files to rule out malicious content, they want to "lock in" those exact files and not allow the originator to switch out file on their server.

By the way, Hotmail will also change your CSS class names and so on, to avoid conflict with the Hotmail skin.

Oh I'm well aware of the fun and games with styling the HTML for Hotmail :)
