Number of sub-folders - any limit?

Is there any reason why I should avoid 'too many' sub-folders when constructing a site?

ie. mydomain.com/lets-have/a-folder/maybe-another/hey-another/one-more/for-good-luck/page-name.htm

Is the above not advisable, or perhaps a good idea, for good structuring a site with lots of categories and content?

The closer you are to the root the better. Getting that deep won't really help you, and it might make your site look a bit spammy.

Heh. It's more for direct search traffic than direct type-ins :)

As I undertand things every level that a bot has go go through dilutes the ranking of those pages. I try and keep everything that I am concerned about search engines finding within two clicks of the home page.

It's also possible that you could exceed the maximum URL length. I'd stick to something like:
[mydomain.com...]

Instead of having more directories, seperate with underscores.

Not a bad idea that, webfoo.
