embed xhtml/css in gmail or hotmail

I need to know how can i embed XHTML/CSS code in gmail or hotmail for a mailing list. or at least how to embed images with links.

First of all, if you are designing an e-newsletter you should design so it looks good in all e-mail clients. Secondly, many e-mail clients will block images and you can't do anything about that. Provide a text only version as well. See these article for how to design for e-newsletters:
