Using an old computer to check on a friend's ecommerce site, I noticed that on every page I went, my PC said that I needed to download Quicktime to view parts of this site (not sure of the exact wording). Problem is that I don't see anywhere on the site that Quicktime is running.

I had never noticed this before, because I have viewed it on computers with Quicktime installed. He has always had a delay in displaying his site (time for it to show), and I am wondering if this could be the reason.

I looked for Quicktime and .Mov files in the source, but found none. Anything else I should be looking for?

Possibly a BGSOUND or an OBJECT/EMBED tag? QuickTime plays many media types.

I would have thought that any ecommerce site that required QuickTime would be committing commercial suicide - not because I dislike QuickTime (as an habitual Mac user I love it) but because penetration on Windows is so low.

If you can find the cause of the problem you will be doing your friend a huge favour.

Didn't find those file types either. You can still view the entire site, but it askes you to download quicktime when you don;t have it installed on your pc.

I may have to talk to the developer.

Thanks!

Check also for any iframe elements, especially if they are pulling a page from a third-party site. This can be a vector for introducing viruses, so don't take risks opening unknown files.
