Right clicking on the Back button in IE

Gives quick history for jumping to pages

I can't believe it's taken me all these years to discover this, but when I right-click on the back button in IE 5.5, I'm presented with a mini history list. It's a very quick way to jump around among pages.

I guess I should remember to right-click on everything to see what it does. How do Mac users survive without right-clicking?

Opera has some great right click menus. I especially enjoy the right click options within a frame site, allowing an easy View Source for each frame.

There is a Mac equivalent of a right-click. I think it's Command-click -- either that or press and hold. Or something.

But whatever it is (and a Mac user will tell us, no doubt), you get the same history list by clicking on the down arrow next to the back-button on most browsers, including MSIE. I use this to back past thoughtless JavaScript redirections. (I have a demonstration online of how a JavaScript redirect can effectively disable the Back button. So far, only one person has discovered that this is how to get around it.)

Hint to web designers: If at all possible, avoid using the phrase "right click" on your websites. Mac users only have one mouse button, while left-handed PC users often have their mouse buttons reversed. For PC mice, the correct terms are actually "primary" and "secondary" buttons.
