I got asked a question at work that stumped me abit.. someone asked when the W3C will make a new version of HTML, I just looked a head abit blankly and said that I will get back to him.

I know that HTML4 and 4.01 has been here since the mid 90's. Where would you say that the XHTML XML would fit into it? I had someone try and tell me that DHTML is HTML5, I didnt listen to him though.

I was just wondering if there are any plans to make any big changes in the near future that anyone has heard about?

Oh yeah and good morning everyone... hate these 7 'o' clock starts!!

I believe HTML as such will not be developed any further. The future is XHTML, which is basically HTML expressed as XML. The W3C are, I believe, currently fine-tuning XHTML 1.1. HTML 5 will never be.

As you probably know, DHTML is not an official language. It is simply a conventional term to describe the process of using scripts (usually JavaScript) to manipulate the browser's Document Object Model, mostly by changing CSS properties. (In fact, strictly speaking, JavaScript rollovers are DHTML.)
