Ok. Maybe I'm completely missing the point, but, other than cloaking what it the point of layers?

Is everyone keeping silent on this one. Does anybody use layers? If so, why?

Hello cfel. I use layers. Why does that sound like an AA statement?

Anyway, I've found layers useful for putting the content I want the spiders to see, right under their noses. It lets me put body text before navigation elements and any script on the page. In short, the spiders see, Title, Metas, then content. Since those precious headers and anchors can be pushed up before any other code, the relationship to the keywords is closer.

I also like the ease with which you can place things on the page. You don't need lots of table code, just that little div tag and the position coordinates. Less code, more content, ease of use and the content is presented to the bots quicker.

I use them extensively for the reasons already stated by digitalghost.

If you are using Dreamweaver or similar, it can speed up the design process quite a bit.
