Can't submit large forms through my new system

Is XP to blame?

I wonder if any members have encountered (and solved) this problem? I control many of the configs of my web sites through web forms (e.g the Lyris web interface, as well as our own programs).

However, since moving to a new PC a couple of weeks ago, forms containing more than a few lines won't send. For example, I can paste in half a dozen new names to the Lyris "add names" form, but more than that and the form details never go (or at least are never received properly).

The only major difference on the new PC is that it's running XP (and also Zonealarm, but it was before). I'm baffled, and would really appreciate any ideas.

From the silence that greets your question so far, I'm guessing this may be something in the interaction between Lyris and XP - rather than XP on its own.

Hope we get some more input for you...it doesn't sound good.

Sorry, I put a bad heading to the thread! It's not only Lyris - I was just using that as an example. It happens whenever a web form is being used to send more than a couple of hundred characters' worth of information, regardless of the requesting system.

OK, I changed the title so we have better bait. Sometimes a new system can have lots of different settings from your old one, but they're not so obvious.

Can you pin down the behavior any more specifically? Is there an exact cutoff point, or does it vary? Is Zone Alarm configured the exact same way?

I never had a problem submitting forms with XP. I do it many times daily with 5 - 10k form submissions. I also used ZoneAlarm (for a while) but removed it because of conflicts with my ISP internet software.

Well, blow me down. Thanks, Key_Master. The magic letters I-S-P got me thinking, so I tried with a free dial-up ISP instead of my normal NTL cable modem, and would you believe it? No problems with submitting forms.

I now have to try with a different OS to see if it's purely an ISP problem or an XP+ISP combination problem, but for now, thanks for the inspiration, and problem solved. Or at least, worked around (a few words with the ISP are in order!). :)

Well, for what it's worth, I'm seeing problems with user submissions failing, on both my Forum, and on the order form. Neither have been updated recently; both have worked without such failures for quite a while.

I don't have a clue about what the problem is, except this one: all the users seem to be running the home version of XP. Naturally, all the ones I've talked to so far, are your clueless newbie types and are thus utterly unable to help me find the problem.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to go out and buy a copy of XP (gag, retch, barf) and load it up, to see what's happening.
