Layer Positioning

DHTML dropdown menus on a centered layout

I've recently been doing a site for the Elementary School that I work at, and I've been using layers that appear and disappear for the menus... I've tried to center the table that contains all of the content, and the image headings for the menu-layers...and on a Mac, I can get the layers to stay in their correct positions in relation to the table, but on a PC, this doesn't seem to work. What can I do to make it work on both browsers? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forums, PitMonkee.

DHTML menus on centered layouts are a challenge. There was a recent thread on that topic here, and the "fix" they settled on was going to left alignment.

I realize that's not really a fix. Let's hope we can get some more input on this.

Well, crap... Because I had the layout on a left alignment, but I didn't think it looked good, so I tried to center it, and worked all great on my Mac when I did it, but then when I looked at it on a PC, I was like "What the heck?". Oh well, if that's my only option, I guess I'll go back to it. Thanks a lot.

Fear not!

I use exactly the same method on our intranet - centered page with DHTML drop downs.

The easiest way is Dreamweaver, in which case visit www.projectseven.com and download and extension called "snap layers" this writes a little function where you can anchor layers to any object on that page.

That way it doesnt matter where you place layers because they will always appear where ever the object is.

Woohoo! It just so happens I have Dreamweaver sitting around, and I don't use it too much...because I don't know about cool stuff like that. Thanks a lot!

Well, now that I've gotten to work and tried this solution, it's not working... I downloaded the extension onto my iBook, and it promptly crashed Dreamweaver after I installed it and tried to add a SnapLayer behavior. I guess I'm going to have to go with Left Align, since apparently fate has decided that nothing can be simple for me ^_^. Thanks anyways for the help!
