I have been on other sites which supposedly have orange favicons but again they appear as yellow on all the machines I have here... could it be something to do with the display settings on the machines?
The machine I am currently on is set to display 65536 colours so I wouldn't have thought there should be a problem...

PS - Do people like the favicon?! We had a lot of trouble trying to create something so small...
To tedster... I understand what you say, but that doesn't (I don't think) explain why some people saw the icon as orange (it seems I'm not allowed to post the URL so only the first few to have seen my post will know what I'm referring to) yet I see it as yellow (on all machines at work, but not my home machine)...
?

I don't get a favicon there, at any rate. If you want, you could switch your profile site for a while and just refer us to it. When the issue is resolved, you can sitch back.
I hope you appreciate the value that this board gains by limiting urls in posts, as frustrating as that may be at times. The absence of promotion, whether overt or sneaky, is one of the factors that keeps the level of helpful information here maxed.
Please Sticky Mail me the url if you don't want to change your profile. I'm big into favicons right now, and I'd love to see what's going on.
To tedster (and everyone)... I've edited my profile so it gives the Web address in question. (If I've done that right, you should see a URL containing the word 'aardvark'.)
I've also solved my problem. I'm working on Windows NT at work and there's a display setting specifically for icons. The NT default is to not show all colours - on changing this setting... hey presto... I get my orange icon! :)
One thing you might consider is placing a 32x32 version in the .ico file along with the 16x16 image. Then if someone drags it to the desktop (hey, it can happen!) the icon doesn't pixelate.
As it happens, I did a close up of the eyes, as a reduced version of the aardvark itself just wasn't working. (It was more because I had to do it that way rather than any creativity on my part!)
It's a sort of bonus that the eyes seem to be almost looking at the URL when you see it in your browser after bookmarking it! ;)
