I'm new to web design and am running into some problems when i export pages from fireworks into dreamweaver. Each page has about 15 images associated with it...is that right? the nav bar has 12 images for each page instead of simply saving them as a single image. so i have like 100 images to upload...i'm reading up on server side includes but haven't dove in yet. also, when i'm uploading (using cute ftp) there seem to be two image files (i'm wondering if the index images are placed separately from the rest of the images since the page is on a different level. any advise, comments would be greatly appreciated...

Welcome to Webmaster World, cdell.

I'm not a Fireworks and Dreamweaver kind of guy -- more like Photoshop and hand coding. But I'm sure your tools don't require any particular number of images, and 100 images for a single page (am I reading you correctly?) is not a sensible thing.

Any page can include any image -- you just need to include the correct path in the src attribute of the img tag. But lots of wysiwyg editors put an "images" folder on the same "level" the page is on by default.

Dreamweaver is a high end, very flexible program. But you do need to understand what it's doing and be clear about what you want it to do for best results.

How are you exporting the images? are you letting it design the html as well?

Personally I just select the parts I want by using the slice tool and then ONLY export the slices only.

The best approach will probably be to optomize and save each image as gif or jpg, then using dreamweaver, call to images into place. What seems to be happening is that Fireworks is slicing the images and placing them within html tables to keep thier appearance the same. Make images, then make html document...

Right - make the images first, then YOU control where they go.

I use Fireworks constantly, but I never let Fireworks do any of the HTML work. I use it just to make my images.
