Could anybody tell me or refer me to info on making a simple menu (in the left margin) where clicking a link (e.g. NEWS) brings a number of sublinks below it.

It doesn't need to be fancy. It just needs to work.

I'm hoping to avoid using javascript simply because this is a temporary need until a (hopefully soon) total design overhaul.

If it has to be done with javascript i'm still all ears.

Eddie Traversa just added some drop-down menus to his site that he calls swiping menus [dhtmlnirvana.com]. He says they're compatible with all browsers.

WebReference also has a DHTML menu system called HierMenus [webreference.com]...but be forewarned that it can take a while to read all of the documentation.

I can't see them in Opera. :( They look great w/IE and NS, though.
