I hope this is OK to post a request like this. I have basic web designing skills. I have a background picture of a straight line . I just need to change the color of some part of this straight line to pink. I would like to keep the design of this line as it is. Please have a look at the background picture at calorad-am-2000-weightloss-diet.CCCcom :). Please stickymail me if it is not OK to post answers of this kind of request. I am using Adobe Photoshop 6.0.

Assuming that 6.0 has similar menus to 5.5, either

1) Image - adjust - replace color (then select and replace)
2) Use magic wand to create layer over areas to change, paint new color

If you're new to PhotoShop you might get tripped up by the fact that this is a gif. Thia means before you add a color, you need to move from "indexed color" to "RGB color". You can do that under Images / Mode.

That move will allow you to add a new color. When you are in Indexed mode you are restricted to using only the colors that are already in the indexed pallette.

After you've got the line looking the way you want, go back to Indexed color before you Save.

and if you started with a gif file you MAY need to save as jpg at this time.

...and it makes sense to save all "masters" as .psd files in RGB mode and then to simply export and save the file you use (jpg or gif) via an optimiser (Smartsaver does a good job on both gifs and jpegs but perhaps the later version of Photoshop does this too?)

FreeBee, recent versions of PhotoShop come with an optimizing program called ImageReady which does a great job and is also tightly integrated into PhotoShop. You can access it with File / Save for the Web

In this particular case, raja4 is working with a tiled background image that has only 2 or 3 colors. Adding one more color won't create a problem to stay with the gif format -- in fact, it's the best way to go.

Thanks Tedster, I had a look at the background and agree that gif is the way to go here. With Imageready, old habits die hard so've I've stuck to the old SS plug-in.
