a rare beast or bogus user agent?

Somewhere, someplace I read that Mozilla/2.0 is an invalid UA and generally used by nasty little bots and spiders. However, I got some (what looks to be) valid page hits with Mozilla/2.0:

Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.0b; AOL 4.0; Windows 3.1)

But I'm uncertain whether it was spoofing or a real user. I suppose someone could be cruising the net on the back of this dinosaur, but then again...?

Source says referring IP is an AOL proxy, which makes me wonder. Didn't grab robots.txt, just hit some pages like bang! 1-2-3 and was outta there.

Anyway, how's Mozilla/2.0 as an active browser?

Check out Browserwatch [browserwatch.internet.com] They show some, but very limited, activity.

The behavior you describe doesn't sound like an old browser, however, does it? Until August my Mom was running AOL 3.0 on a 586, and it didn't grab ANYTHING 1-2-3!
