I wanted to do a quick post and let people know that another set of penalized websites are about to re-enter our index. The last times I mentioned something like this, it was for clients of a particular SEO or company who went way past our guidelines:
[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]

This time, it's mostly independent websites that were outside our quality guidelines, but that corrected whatever it was (hidden text, hidden links, etc.) and asked to be re-included. Many sites will return to our index within 24 hours. A few sites that used to be way past our guidelines will have to wait for a complete crawl/index cycle before they return completely.

I've said it before, but ultimately each webmaster is responsible for what happens on their own pages. Don't let someone else convince you to put hidden links, hidden links, or other tricks on your domains unless you know what problems it can cause. If you think your site may have penalties for violating our guidelines at one time, but the site has now corrected any problems, you can send an email to webmaster@google.com with the subject line "reinclusion request". Wait to email us until you're sure your site complies with our quality guidelines at
[google.com...]

One of my resolutions for this year is to continue to communicate and to increase communication with webmasters when they've run into problems. The process we're putting into place for these reinclusion requests should help make that easier for webmasters who have made mistakes.

Hope this little GoogleGram helps,
GoogleGuy (topping 900 posts! Woohoo!)

Actually GG said in his opening statement that the update (He did not use the term dance) will happen within the following 24 hours. That was 02:05 UTC.

Now we have 00:50 UTC. So the update will begin within the next 75 minutes, right?

Nope. He said:
Many sites will return to our index within 24 hours.

There is a really bad habit around here to read more into GoogleGuy's statements than he says.

yankee, your math is off. It is currently 0055 UTC 7 March.

Possibly and possibly not, googleguy said that sites which had a penalty will be back in the index within 24hours some of them sites have already floated back into the current index, either way it will be within the next 9hours - so goodluck everyone!

I'm using the times from the posts here. So the nine hour limit is correct.

Something tells me those new scalable spam filters will cause the update to not happen in nine hours. Google must have over done it with them, backed them out, and redid the index with the old algo.

I'm an ODP editor. We are the Rodney Dangerfield's of the Internet, and get no respect. My guess is no.

rfgdxm1,
You certainly have my respect. You are not only an editor, you are a fair editor, (I know this for a fact:), and that deserves all the respect in the world.

GG,
This is a tremendous improvement and great news. Not that I have ever been banned, but the fact that you are willing to spend time on sites that may have screwed up in the past shows your respect for the Webmaster community. Staying humble when you are at the top is difficult, but it will offer great long-term rewards. Go and ask for a pay rise, your value to the company is more than they probably understand. :)

No. Brett said this announcement happened at around 1500 EST on 5 March, and that is consistent with 1944 UTC 5 March. That means 48 hours from that will be 1944 UTC 7 March. That is about 19 hours from right now.

BigDave, I´m not trying to read something into GG´s statement. I just do the math and take the two old threads he refers to. He made his comments about banned sites getting back into the index on Dec. 2002 02:07 UTC and on Jan. 2003 00:55 UTC.

According to this [webmasterworld.com] thread, the update in January started at 14:46 UTC. So you don´t see a strong correlation between a "Sites-get-back-in"-statement and the absolute beginning of the update?

One thing I am not sure of is whether sites getting back in necessarily has to correlate with the update. Remember, we have Freshbot that can add content between updates. Thus, this could possibly just be the time Freshbot will be allowed to crawl these sites again.

"sites get reincluded" time is not necessarily the update time..

I hope this is a good place to ask about the sites that
will be allowed back into the index... Does this mean
people who specifically requested being re-allowed in after
removing offensive invisible links or other errors? Or
does it mean that a certain filter will be stopped and a number of sites will re-appear naturally... just thought I'd ask about the meaning of sites getting back into the index.

I´m fortunately not familiar with banned sites being spidered or or not (either Deep or Fresh). Are there any given indications that banned sites are not being spidered? If so, your Freshbot-theory may apply.

beachlover,

I'm not saying that you are wrong. I am just saying that he did not say that the dance would start at that time. In fact, some of the people that were banned are already showing up again, possibly through freshbot.

I´m not trying to read something into GG´s statement. I just do the math and take the two old threads he refers to.

These two sentences contradict each other.

What you are stating was what I assumed he meant too. That is the most likely way that they will get back in the index. But it is NOT what he said. You are making an assumption.

Anyway, doing a countdown on his words doesn't do anyone any good. The dance happens when it happens.
