Do people get scared when someone starts to become successful? I choose google not because I have to but because it delivers the most relivent results in my opinion for most searches I ever do. That goes with the majority of the users also, so when other companies use Google for results and whatnot I think its because they want to say google powers them or theyre making some nice chiChing off of the served results. As far as the content site adword delivery... neat move.
The way things are going, google is buying up all the search engines...
You mean, like FAST and Altavista? Or Teoma? Or Wisenut?
Welcome to WW. Google is just a blip on the long term radar, if we were back in 1994 no one would be able to see how Altavista wouldn't be the dominent force forever.
As Andy Warhol says, everyone has 15 minutes, and Google is currently getting its moment of fame.
If there is money to be made from search tools those companies that know how to make money (and currently have money) will be the ones who will be the long term players.
Google is only the 5th most powerful (visited) site on the web. Yahoo and MSN are #1 & #2. Microsoft can buy Yahoo 4 times over and still have spare change, it can probably buy Google 10 times over and have spare change out of its cash reserves.
The question is: "Can real money be made from a search engine?", if so MS will mop up, if not who cares?
If I were Bill Gates I would let the competition develop the technology and then eat them when they were in financial trouble.
And, Yahoo now owns Inktomi. I can't imagine they'd buy Ink if they planned on sticking with Google. Definitely a significant number of searches are done on Yahoo. Competition actually seems to be heating up a bit.
