Too many hits?

50,000 Google spider hits in one month?

I run an online simulation that is highly dependent on dynamic content. Despite the fact that our site consists of only about 200 actual pages, we have tens of thousands of pages of dynamic content. So far this month I have received in excess of 50,000 hits from Google spiders and for the past week it has been a minimum of 2,000 hits per day.

I’m still very new at this (this time last year I didn’t get that many page views on the entire site, let alone one spider) and apologize if this is a stupid question. Is this normal for sites with tons of dynamic content? If I’m getting scanned so much by Google, why is the Google cache for my site still showing a page from January 12th? Should all these hits have ANY impact on my current PR4 rating?

Thanks for your time,

Not uncommon. 7723 hits so far here today with an hour and a half to go. Been several days of 4-5 fold that at times.

Not much you can do about it.

They do the big update once a month. That's where your cached page is showing from. When the update happens (any day now), you should see that cached page updated too.
